On the first ever Rams Reset Day, the order of the day was trying something new. T.C. Roberson High School’s faculty and staff set up a day of special classes April 23, to help students with the challenges that come in the last month of school.
“Rams Reset Day is a wellness day for students,” said counselor Felicia Carter. “This time of year can be a hard time with end-of-the-year exams coming up. This helps them see the finish line.”
Students signed up for classes including beekeeping, taught by Roberson principal Nathan Allison. Buncombe County Schools Superintendent Dr. Rob Jackson led a session on leadership. Students could experience a Chinese tea service, make tie-dye bandanas, help paint a mural, or sing karaoke. Other activities included taste-testing ramps and other traditional Appalachian foods, putting together giant puzzles, and games of four-square and ultimate frisbee.
“I didn’t know what to expect, but this has been a lot of fun, and I’ve learned some new things I may not have ever tried,” shared Denver Wamsley, a Roberson junior. “This time of year can be stressful. Having something like this really is a reset like they call it. It mentally prepares you and reinvigorates you for the last stretch of the school year.”
Based on the success of the inaugural Rams Reset Day, the school is considering holding similar events at least once a semester.
