What to Expect in 2020-2021

I suspect you won't be surprised to learn that we don't know exactly what to expect from this school year.   You can, however, expect that I will do my very best to keep you informed so that you can make the best decisions for your child.

We do know that school is going to look and feel very different for your kids this year.  We're going to start the year with only a few students at a time, with a strange schedule.  Your kids will arrive to temperature checks and masks, with no hugs or high fives.  There won't be freedom to come and go from the classroom that they've enjoyed before.  It may feel clinical, and I suspect, a bit scary for some.

However, they will get to see their classmates -- maybe a few at a time, and maybe later through a computer screen -- and they will be learning again.  We'll have daily schedules that include live (virtual) meetings and small group lessons and independent work.

Some things that I have planned for my class are:
  • Daily virtual meetings with my full class to set the stage for learning for the day.
  • Choices in independent learning activities in a variety of formats.
  • Individualized daily visual schedules, learning choice boards, and work systems.
  • 1-1 and small group live, virtual  lessons.
  • Live, in-person instruction as soon and as much as possible.
  • Academic, social/emotional, daily living, and vocational lessons tailored to each student's needs.
  • Lots of trial and error, patience, compassion, and forgiveness for mistakes and misdirections.
Learning Management System:

I will use SeeSaw as my main "hub," though expect to see a variety of other platforms attached to it.  Students and parents will be invited to SeeSaw .

My Availability/Communication:

Y'all have my number and email, and you know you can reach me pretty much anytime.
We will also have a Zoom Room set up for you to access one of us pretty much all day.  That information will be sent to parents and students.
