Autism Awareness T-Shirt

April is Autism Awareness month!  Last school year, Buncombe County schools had a total participation of 2,090 teachers and staff wearing the autism t-shirt.  We are hoping that this April 2020 - we will have more participation from faculty, staff, parents and students.

World Autism Awareness day is on April 2, 2020 (Thursday).  The school is selling an Autism t-shirt which faculty, parents, and students can wear on this day, as we stand united in creating an awareness of autism in the community.  The theme for this school year is:  Different, Not less.   The shirts are a light blue with yellow and white text.  You can see an approximation of the colors on the school website.

On April 2, we will be taking group photos of all the teachers, staff, parents, and students wearing the Autism t-shirt in each school.  It is our hope that all 46 schools participate in this endeavor.  We will be posting these pictures on the BCS website and social media.

We will also have activities in every school focus on providing information on autism: facts, difference and acceptance. Our goal is to raise autism awareness, as we stand united supporting these individuals in our schools as well as in the community.

T-shirts are $10. Sizes 2XL and 3XL are $12.00. Order forms and money need to be turned in to students’ homeroom teacher by March 4th. We hope that you will join us as we celebrate these individuals with unique gifts!

The vendor advised that we order a size up from our regular size.  Example:  if you are generally a size small - order a size medium.

This years' t-shirt vendor works with a group in Hendersonville that employs young adults with special needs .  We are thrilled to support our local businesses that support individuals with different abilities!
