McMinn, Cristina - English/Yearbook

Mrs. McMinn
Welcome to my Classroom
The 2016-2017 school year will begin my twelfth year of teaching.  My students often characterize me by my loud laugh. I do laugh often, as I love my students and my job.
I was born and raised in West Bloomfield, Michigan.

I graduated in 2005 from East Carolina University with a B.S. in English Education and earned my National Board Certification in English Language Arts in 2011.

My husband is a native of Asheville and a graduate of T.C.R. We are raising two daughters; our oldest will be starting kindergarten this fall.
This year, I will be teaching Standard English I, Honors English I and Standard English III.
Parents, I look forward to teaching your son or daughter.  We will be reading and writing a lot in English class.  Please make sure students are prepared for English class by completing their summer reading.
Honors English I students must read two novels:
  • First They Killed My Father by Loung Ung
  • The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
The requirement for Honors English I is mandatory. Students can expect to be tested on the plot of these novels within the first week of school.
Standard English I students may read To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.  The requirement for standard English is optional, and will earn your students extra credit at the beginning of the school year.
If you have further questions about the summer reading requirements, you can find additional information on the school's homepage under the announcement heading.
If you would like to purchase school supplies before the start of the school year, all English students in my classes will need the following:
  • A notebook or binder filled with loose leaf
  • A folder for class handouts
  • Writing utensils of your choosing
  • Highlighters
  • An agenda to record one's homework (The school sells agendas for typically $5 at the Freshman Orientation in August)
Honors English I students, please see the attached Policies and Procedures for Honors English I  and the Course Syllabus for Honors English I for the 2016-2017 school year.
Standard English I students, please see the attached Policies and Procedures for English I and the Course Syllabus for English I.
